Afghan Evac: Service Program for SIV Holders Resumes After Resettlement in the United States 

The Afghan Evac Coalition has announced that the “Reception and Placement” program for migrants holding Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) has been resumed. The coalition stated that SIV holders who have arrived in the United States within the past 90 days can visit the “Reception and Placement” office to receive services.

The “Reception and Placement” office is one of the institutions that assists SIV holders after resettlement in the U.S., providing support with housing, employment, English language classes, school enrollment for children, medical examinations, obtaining a Social Security number, and other essential services.

Following the suspension of the U.S. immigration program and the termination of financial assistance by President Trump, this program was also halted for all immigrants.

As a result of this directive, only Afghan migrants holding Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) have been eligible to obtain a U.S. visa and travel to the United States at their own expense.

The Trump administration has not yet reinstated the U.S. refugee admissions program. Currently, thousands of migrants—including tens of thousands of Afghan migrants in countries such as Pakistan and Qatar—are waiting for the program to resume.

Trump has also banned travel to the United States for citizens of Afghanistan and 11 other countries. SIV holders are exempt from this order.
