CW4WAfghan Launches Free Online Courses for Afghan Teachers

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) has launched a series of free online courses for Afghan teachers. As part of CW4WAfghan’s Gender Equity in Teacher Training Program (GETT), the courses are designed for displaced educators in countries surrounding Afghanistan who are living in temporary and uncertain conditions. 

“These courses will better position educators for future teaching opportunities by providing them with enhanced computer skills and by showing them how to develop courses and teach online,” says Sacha Innes, Education Project Manager with CW4WAfghan.

In partnership with the Government of Canada, the courses will be launched progressively over the next four months on the Darakht-e Danesh Academi (Knowledge Tree) platform in English, Farsi/Dari, and Pashto. 

Courses include:

1. Basic Computer and Digital Literacy Skills
2. Gender Based Analysis for Education
3. Leadership for Empowerment of Girls
4. How to Teach Online (Introductory Course, Advanced Course)
5. How to Develop Distance Education Courses
6. Online E-Safety
7. Critical and Creative Thinking
8. Mental Health for Educators (in partnership with the University of British Columbia)

“Educators will not only gain skills to better support students on the move, but they will gain the knowledge to manage their own children’s learning and social and emotional needs,” says Innes.  

Course participants will receive certification upon completion, including one partner certification from the University of British Columbia. The courses are open, free, and mobile device compatible for anyone who wants to learn.
